“My first day set me up for success because it fostered new connections that are still evident to this day.”
Jhohan - R&D Senior Scientist, Fem Care, Always Brand
My first day of work was a mixture of nervousness, uncertainty and eagerness into what the start of my career would look like. I was coming in as an intern without any work experience not sure on what I would be doing for that summer. Day 1 started with a welcome cart where people across the Baby Fem materials group came by to introduce themselves. As much as it sounds forced or too intentional it was the complete opposite. It allowed me to see the mix of people: cultures, background, experiences that I would be working with from the beginning. They provided insights of the city, made connections personally and asked/offer inputs about my role. This exact thing happened when I came back full time. New faces, familiar faces but the same common theme: a diverse group of people with a passion to win and personalities that foster growth and depth in skills.
My first day set me up for success because it fostered new connections that are still evident to this day. Whether they have moved roles to other areas or have stuck around they shaped my view on investing in others whether it’s inside or outside my role. That can take different forms such as recruiting for Florida or Hispanics in Texas, coaching new hires in my group, taking the extra step to ground individuals cross functionally on what things mean. To this day I attend every welcome and farewell (not just for the free food) but more so for the connections that can be made.
