"P&G fosters and encourages individual growth, development and getting “involved” both within and outside the company"
Michael, Finance Leader
I’ve been with P&G for 33 years, my first five years I worked as an Engineer in Product Supply with the balance of my career in our Finance & Accounting (F&A) Organization. As an Engineer I had responsibility for the “Taping & Gluing Systems” for our Diaper Manufacturing Lines. I was empowered to learn and become an “expert” on the processes and to identify and develop breakthrough process and cost improvement ideas to improve the overall operating efficiencies of the production lines. I am most proud of introducing “visioning system technology” to our diaper machines and automating our manual glue system processes. The visioning systems capabilities enabled “single pad rejection” of defective diapers that are being made at rates of greater than 10 diapers per second ensuring only “high quality” diapers are packaged for sale to consumers. While we leverage and develop state of the art technology, there are always opportunities for improvement, and P&G does not have the time nor resources to employ duplicitous people to work on the same issues/processes. We empower people at a very young age, train them, then expect them to make significant contributions.
P&G prides itself in hiring employees who view P&G as a place to start and invest in a career vs. just a place for a job. I was fortunate enough to extend my career within P&G and moving from one day being an “engineer” to the next day being the “Plant Finance Manager” for one of our California plants. After earning my MBA and having some serious career discussions with my manager, we were able to develop a win-win opportunity where I moved into the F&A function and filled an immediate opportunity for the company. Again, the expectations were high and the responsibilities significant. But P&G provided me with the proper training and tools to allow me to be successful as I transitioned into my new function.
Lastly, P&G fosters and encourages individual growth, development and getting “involved” both within and outside the company. Our daughter suffered from an onset of Bacterial Meningitis at the age of 5 months. The outcome of her battle was permanent hearing loss and brain damage. My family and two others that we met through Cincinnati Children's Hospital joined forces and founded Ohio Valley Voices, a school where deaf children learn how to talk and are mainstreamed into their public schools by grade one. As I continued to advance my career the company enabled me to spend the time pursing my passion and making a difference for hearing impaired children in the Cincinnati area. I then got involved with our People with Disabilities Affinity network nearly 15 years ago. While still doing my day job, I work with a team of passionate employees who influence product and packaging strategies, influence building and technology accessibility standards and focus on making P&G a more diverse and inclusive culture where employees can perform at their peak and consumers of all abilities can leverage and use our products.
