Senior Platform Engineer
Overview of the job
This is a hands-on engineering role being Golang based microservices for consumer IoT digital products. A successful candidate is a highly collaborative problem solving engineer that isn’t afraid to ask why. A great candidate is motivated by coaching, guiding, and pair programming with junior and mid-level engineers and finds fulfilment in seeing others around them build functional, testable, and reliable digital systems.
Your team
This role reports to the Engineering Director of Connected Experiences. The team has 1 Technical director, 1 Technical Product Manager, 2 Senior Engineers, 2 Engineers in Cincinnati Ohio, and 1 engineer in our Manila office. Team diversity is a strength, team makeup is 57% women with multiple team members from under-represented backgrounds.
How success looks like
Functional performance -This role is 80% hands-on engineering, success metrics will be code test coverage, change failure rate, story velocity impact and delivery of key features for the stakeholders of our IoT platform. Compliance scores in regards to Technical/Cloud Security Standards
Revenue and profits–Our platform directly contributes to iNOS impact but is largely driven by how we enable our brands. Driving performance and efficiencies in the cloud should enable cost reduction and team members are expected to drive down infrastructure cost by optimizingsolutions and driving scale.
Time-based performance–Senior team members are expected to deliver major feature in the first 90 days, with a focus on learning our systems in the first 30 days.
Employee growth–As a senior platform engineer baseline expectations are that you deliver with excellence and grow in your technical capabilities and understanding of what the prioritize to drive value for the team. Senior team members will be expected to help you grow and thrive, as you will be expected to help team members junior to you thrive and grow.
Responsibilities of the role
Engineering Execution of user stories from a groomed product backlog
Working with product managers and other engineers to refine and clarify backlog items
Proper Git SCM habits, clear and well described pullrequests meeting our definition of done
Delivery of testable and idiomatic backend code
Technical Coaching and guidance for junior team members
Qualifications
Role Requirements
Hard Skills:
Strong engineering skill in a statically typed backend language (Golang preferred but background in Java, C#, or C++ will also work)
Experience in Git and SCM flows, branching, pull requests, rebasing, merging
Experience building query patterns with a relational database (Postgres preferred but MySQL, MS SQL, or Oracle will also work)
Experience building applications with containers preferred (Docker, Cloud Run, Kubernetes)
Soft Skills:
