“I am helping others to understand their disability and how to seek support”
Markus, Human Resources Manager
When I started my career at P&G, I was fascinated about our corporate efforts regarding Diversity & Inclusion since I am convinced that everybody, regardless of any condition, can and will perform at their PEAK within an inclusive, accessible and confident company culture. And this is exactly what you find at P&G.
I have a hearing loss disability, using hearing aids in both ears. Since Day 1, I have never felt isolated or being pigeonholed at P&G for this condition. My colleagues and leaders embrace my disability and demonstrate me how they perceive it as an asset since they value my ability to listen and my non-verbal communication skills.
One of our main principles in P&G is that we show respect for all individuals, which means everyone valued, everyone included, everyone performing at their Peak. Now, I always encourage people to speak up about their condition, because people need to know about it to support you in bringing your unique self to work each day to win with consumers externally that are as diverse as we are internally.
In my first years, I was able to talk with many coworkers about their own disability and to help them to seek support internally and externally. I also encouraged our Diversity & Inclusion principles in a video that we showed during one of our Diversity and Inclusion weeks in P&G.
Today, I am actively involved with P&G’s People with Disabilities (PWD) network and focusing on helping other P&G employees to seek support, specially being interested in how new technologies can be used to facilitate the work of people with disabilities.
